Something went AWOL in the code (chkdsk found??). Suggest re-installing
the code. Make backup of your configuration first.

PS. You got a later release than I. Which was the last fixpack for it?

hmmm, dunno if chkdsk found anything. What message file could be missing?
Not sure which CD's the files came from. Anyone got a list of files needed for
nfsd?

Bill,

The config file you mention would be \mptn\etc\exports ?

Thanks

It seems that my nfsd came from TCPIP 4.3. I checked the filesizes
they looked ok. I replaced some files including nfs300.ifs. No Joy!

I moved the exports file. nfsd then complained it could not find it. But
did not crash. Tried a fresh exports file and it crashed like before.

Anyone?

It is the message file for nfsd.exe and on my system it is located under
\tcpip\msg\dede850.

I use a german NLV with codepage 850.

I'm not having any luck finding this file or where it may come from
in the tcpip install. I'm hoping not to reinstall the whole
stack as I had trouble enough getting this one stable.

On another system I was able to get nfsd running and it
apparently doesn't need nfsd.cat.

Is there a tool or utility that will show what files are touched
when say nfsd starts up?

Thanks for the help!

Look on Hobbes for os2trace.

execute the following

set beginlibpath=<os2trace-dir>;
<os2trace-dir>\os2trace -A <drive>:\mptn\bin -B ALL -D ALL -F ALL -G ALL
-I ON -L 3 -T ON -W ALL
<os2trace-dir>\os2trace -ON -ALL -P <drive>:\mptn\bin\nfsd.exe

This will create a nsfd.trc file in <drive>:\mptn\bin.

You can look in this file to get an answer to your question.

<os2trace-dir>\os2trace -OFF -ALL -P <drive>:\mptn\bin\nfsd.exe
disable the tracing.

Thanks for that! I was able to look at the trace file but could
not pin down where lies the problem. So, boldly, I unistalled tcpip and
reinstalled.. then refreshing to what I thought was the
latest tcp4.3 with mpts 6.0.

The end result is I still have the same problem. "message file not found"
The inetver is still low I think.
[D:\]inetver
Version numbers of TCP/IP protocol drivers:
SOCKETS.SYS: 6.3000
AFOS2.SYS: 6.3000
AFINET.SYS: 6.3001

Kernel is 14.089_W4 not that it should matter. This box has had a lot of mods
through the years of SWC. And not enough backups :(

I will check the trace again. And check the mpts fixes. (so confusing those are)

Just wanted to send my thanks for the help. I'm still struggling along here.

Be Well,

As far as I knew I was up-to-date but mine shows:
Version numbers of TCP/IP protocol drivers:
SOCKETS.SYS: 6.3100
AFOS2.SYS: 6.3100
AFINET.SYS: 6.3100
As to the message file, it may very well be on the system, - just not
in the dpath (unfortunately I can't determine which message file it is
looking at)..
Looking back too I see you have a later nfs than I have as mine is m04
and yours in m17. I would make sure that portmap and nfsd are not
set to autostart in the tcpip notebook. You might get a better idea
of what is happening by launching portmap then nfsd manually (This may
be the way you have it, I may be confusing this post with someone
else's problem).
I'll have to see if I can finf the latter update to see if mine still
works after it is installed.

Why don't you install TCPip 4.32 ?

Sorry for the delayed reply... I now cannot find the 4.32 zip. I know I stored
it at one time when my SWC was active.

I even have a folder named tcp432! what is the file size of "tcpip432".zip?
My last SWC volume was "8". Was there a 9?

No traces yet cuz the 4.3.2 stack may be the issue.....Will try this week.
Thanks for the offer to look at it.

Now with the withdrawl of OS/2 from IBM..... I feel sickened.
And, may be screwed. I was in process of renewing PA.

Best Regards,

Mike

There is a SWC volume 9.
TCP/IP 4.32 is already included in MCP2.

If you don't have TCP/IP 4.32 you have two option to get it:
a) IBM PA
b) eComStation

You can still renew PA. You have until Dec 23 to do a renewal.
